The Manager, Transportation is responsible for top and bottom line growth of the business to also include strategy, operations, systems, processes, partner carrier development, carrier relationships, carrier management, performance reporting, and human resources. It is expected that the individual in this role will also contribute significantly to the overall strategy and business development of Inland Star’s warehouse operations business. Continual focus on the improvement of processes to ensure customers’ needs are being met, for high quality, cost effective transportation services is paramount. Job Requirements:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

• Grow annual gross transportation revenues from $1.8 million to $3.5 million in 2017 
• Develop value propositions to existing warehouse customers highlighting service and economic advantage by assigning pre-paid freight to Inland Star to execute, manage and operationalize 
• Transportation modeling, analysis and rate development (via in-house or carrier partners) 
• Provide leadership and vision to the operation by daily oversight of all facets of the operation as well as developing quarterly, annual and long range plans for the operation 
• Evaluate and diversify carrier partner relationships. Negotiate commercial rate structures and ensure compliance all carriers are compliant. 
• Access and justify expansion of Inland Star’s asset-based transportation infrastructure 
• Accomplish objectives by establishing plans, budgets, and results measurements; allocating resources; reviewing progress. 
• Ensure transportation services exceed customer expectations for service and cost 
• Manage dispatch, customer service, billing, accounts receivable, invoicing and auditing 
• Prepare budgets, revenue projections, and account analysis 
• Develop performance scorecards for (1) the operation as a whole, (2) individual carriers, and (3) strategic customers 
• Develop, prioritize and direct routing methods amongst in-house and carrier partners to ensure profitability with the efficient and cost effective operation 
• Develop and maintain a productive work team to act in accordance with corporation goals through training and professional development. 
• Assess and recommend TMS technology that will optimize transportation operations, reporting, track and tracing and billing 
• Assess and recommend capital expenditures 
• Grow existing relationships and expand new relationships with carriers, brokers and peers in all markets 
• Develop go-to carriers in all Inland Star markets to include getting pre-established rates or tariffs that Inland Star can rely on when creating directional solutions for customers and prospects 
• Responsible for driver management, and driver and fleet safety for in-house operations 
• Oversee and ensure safe operation of regulated vehicles to include compliance with the Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Basic Inspection of Terminals (BIT) Program. Ensure our operations are inspected by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) on a performance-based inspection selection system. 
• Conducts sales calls and presentations both individually and with expanded pursuit teams

PREPARATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES 

• Four year college degree 
• Six to ten years related experience in Third-Party logistics preferred 
• Proficient with Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Proven track record in transportation operations 
• Working knowledge of industry proven transportation management systems 
• Ability to read, write and communicate in the English language 
• Effective oral and written communication skills targeted at all levels regarding supervision, counseling and discipline 
• Bilingual Spanish/English skills a plus 
• Good communication skills (listening & eye contact)
