Carrier Relations Manager


Solicits, develops and helps manage the network of carriers needed to provide transportation services.  Manages carrier bids and rates for ongoing and new business opportunities.  Expected to achieve desired revenue and profit objectives.  Develop a strong internal and external network of third-party carriers (LTL, Parcel, and Truckload). 


Duties and Responsibilities:


Essential Functions:

  • Develops marketing plan with carriers for existing and developing coverage areas that supports and grows transportation revenue objectives. 
  • Manage Carrier/Courier performance and relationships across the Parcel/LTL/Truckload network – US and Canada
  • Develop annual operating plans and long-range strategies for carrier networks.
  • Leads telemarketing and in-person carrier sales efforts to grow business unit revenue and profitability. 
  • Develop bid process to obtain rates and capacity from carriers.
  • Develop and maintain rate database to support customer RFP requests and sales team in pricing.
  • Assist operations in establishing reliable and cost-efficient carriers on requested lanes. Review carrier performance to ensure on-time deliveries and cost-effective services.  
  • Travel as required in support of established goals and carrier recruiting.
  • Represents the company at business and industry events as needed. 

Job Specifications:

  • College degree with concentration in Marketing, Business or Transportation preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years transportation experience.
  • Carrier and Provider sourcing and procurement experience required
  • Detailed knowledge of rates for various markets in Truckload, LTL, and Parcel services. 
  • Experience managing bids, recommending carrier solutions and executing contracts.
  • Thorough knowledge of transportation contracts and industry/DOT regulations. Experience in the logistics or supply chain industry preferred.
  • Experience working in a LEAN environment generating process and cost improvements.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and success using online marketing/social media tools, ie., twitter, facebook, 
  • Strong analytical, negotiating and data gathering skills that are used to generate results.
  • Budget development & management experience required
  • Experience with various TMS/WMS required – with a focus on transportation systems
  • Strong work ethic, customer service skills, and ability to work at a fast pace.
  • Superior communication skills, including the proven ability to effectively manage, influence, negotiate and communicate with external business partners and internal teams to meet operational goals. 
  • Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office and related transportation software applications, and accurate typing/copywriting skills.
