Essential Duties and Responsibilities  include the following.  Other duties may be  assigned.

Manage safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration  (OSHA) rules and regulations.  Maintain OSHA 300  Logs.  

Maintain the OSHA Record of Injury to support all 300 Log  entires.


Develops and implements programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment, and other materials.   Prepares studies and analyses of industrial accident causes and hazards to health for use by company  personnel and outside agencies.  

Periodically Inspects facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated. and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.

 Participates in new equipment and facilities design to ensure attention to safe design and operating techniques.  Coordinate the investigation of accidents and injuries and cooperate in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations.  -Ensure that injured company employees receive care and treatment. Coordinate work comp claims. File work comp claims and see to it that a claim number is  retained within 48 hours.  -Coordinate transportation of injured employees to clinic or hospital. and maintain relationship with medical services providing  treatment.  -Ensure payment for medical services and work comp bills are completed. Attend all claims  review meetings.  -Complies and submits reports required by regulatory  agencies.  -Train and assist managers and employees in work site safety   practices.   Inspect facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determine corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follow up to ensure measures have been   implemented.


Represent organization at personnel-related hearings and investigations. Develop and implement facility emergency action  plans.

Coordinate and/or conduct all required facility and equipment inspections and testing (inciuding eye-wash, emergency showers, fire extinguishers,  emergency  lighting, etc.)

  Develop and maintain SDS program ensuring all documentation is kept up to date and training is administered to employees n hazardous  chemicals.

Conduct all contractor and visitor safety training & orientations. Ensure contractors working on company property are in compliance with policies and safety requirements. Ensure that any contractor injury is recorded on separate OSHA 300  Log.


Maintain all employee, contractor  and visitor safety training records.


Investigate all incidents, accidents and near-misses & assist in the development of corrective   actions to prevent reoccurrence. Assist in the identification of possible losses, evaluating the risk of such loss exposure, and develop and coordinate a plan to correct or prevent a loss. Follow up as needed to ensure items are being  addressed.


-Conduct (PPE) Personal Protective Equipment assessments for each process and task done by every employee. Ensure verification documents are signed by plant authority and are available for all to review. Do annual reviews of the assessments and make changes as needed.

  -Develop Lockout/Tagout step by step procedures for all processing and electrical equipment. Conduct reviews annually as required by statutory   requirement.

Maintain filing system and ensure training records are kept for all OSHA required training including but not limited  to:

-Forklift Operator/Scissor  Lift Operators


-Confined Space


-Fire Extinguisher

-Emergency Evacuations

-Bloodborne Pathogens

-Fall Protection

-Respirator Protection

-Haz-Mat Response Team

             -Hearing Conservation              -Hot Works and Line Break              -Incident Investigation

Conducts all duties in an environmentally responsible manner Performs any other duty as assigned

Process Safety Management (PSM)  Program

Be an active participant in the PSM Program and contribute to the development of policies and procedures  Includes attendance to monthly  meetings.

Development  of Risk Management Plan, and submit accordingly (every 5 years.)

Develop site emergency response plan for ammonia leak response. Coordinate cooperation and relationship with county Haz-Mat and the local fire  department.

Arrange  & participate in facility PSM audits.

Coordinate and administer elements of the PSM training  program.

Develop Hot Works and Line Break programs and policies and review annually or as needed. Submit required regulatory reporting to EPA & other agencies as it relates to Tier 1 & Tier 2. Perform other duties related to PSM or Risk Management as  needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervises Safety Manager regarding safety issues and compliance. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities included supervisory training in regards to Safety rules and regulations and security policies and procedures. Assesses  facility safety performance and identifies areas of management   improvement.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and   experience.  


Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating  and maintenance  instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively  before groups of customers or employees of  organization.  


Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software: Spreadsheet software and Word  Processing software.
